Do I have to be certified as a Firefighter or EMT to join?
No, and members seeking certification may be eligible for sponsorship through the department.
Do I have to live in Lone Oak?
No. Non-residents have access to living quarters at the station during their shift.
Am I covered if injured on duty?
Yes, LOFD members are covered by insurance plans.
Is this a paid position?
No, the LOFD is 100% volunteer.
What type of training will I receive?
You will receive training in Fire, Rescue, and EMS operations. We also offer assessment and interview mentorship programs for those wishing to apply at career fire departments.
What are the time commitments?
Most members are placed on a shift to respond to calls one day or night per week. We can work to accommodate most schedules. In addition, we meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesday evening each month and require a high attendance rate.
Are there age limits?
Members must be 18 or older to join. Those 16+ may apply for our junior (explorer) program. Contact us for more info.
What about my background?
All members undergo a drug screening and background check to join the department and maintain an eligible status.
Are there other non-responder positions available?
